Homework
Homework is something that helps you learn some of the very important traits that contribute to lifelong success: responsibility, organization, time management. Also, it helps to supplement what we are learning in the classroom.
This year, completing your homework on time and to the best of your ability will be one of your “jobs” as a student. It can be hard to juggle all of our extracurricular activities and homework but it will be important to strike a balance between the two. In 5th grade, homework often is an integral part of the next day’s lessons. Coming to school prepared will allow you to be an active participant in the day’s learning.
You will receive no more than 50 minutes of homework a day. In addition, it is expected that you read for at least 30 minutes daily. No homework will be given over the weekends or school breaks. If you have had 50 minutes of focused work time and are unable to complete all of your homework, then you should have your parent send me an email to let me know that.
5R Homework Plan (Monthly)
The 5R Homework Plan below has been put into place to help you be successful! If you are having difficulty getting your homework done, your family and I want to help you figure things out and overcome the obstacles that are getting in your way.
One Missed Assignment: OOPS!
It happens so let’s get past it and move on. Let me know and complete it for the next day.
Second Missed Assignment: UH OH!
It could just be another OOPS but it also could be the start of a bigger problem! Because of the latter, I will email your parents to let them know so that they can work with you before it becomes a bigger problem. I will also expect that you turn in the assignment the next day.
Third Missed Assignment: I NEED HELP GETTING ON TRACK!
If you have missed three assignments in one month than that is a signal that you might need some adult guidance coming to school prepared for the next day’s lessons. I want to help, and so do your parents. I will meet with you and come up with a plan which involves, a homework check-in with me at the end of the school day, and one with an adult at home each evening upon completion of your homework. I will contact your parents to let them know what is being done to help!
